New Project -- this could be fun!

Ladies, I've been thinking a lot lately about the state of my poor bedroom. My bedroom has never been a room where I put too much emphasis on the decor and the ambiance. Isn't that horrible? You'd think of all the places you'd want your house to be lovely, and romantic and inviting it would be your bedroom, right? Not mine. I can remember one time where I have had a cute bedroom and that was when we first moved out to Colorado -- and for about 9 months we had a cute bedroom. Not to be that one person that always shares too much information, but Chad and I are basically never in there. It's sad. I was reading on the Fly Lady Website today that your bedroom should be like an oasis, or a retreat...it should make you feel like you are on vacation. Huh? I feel stress in my bedroom! First of all, we have furniture that we don't really like anymore (but it's very dumb to get rid of it because it's new and in great condition) and we have new and very plush navy blue carpet. I'm not really a carpet kind of girl to begin with but if I have it, I'd prefer burbur and this is definitely not. The thing that stinks is that it's new and was just put in before we moved here. So, it's staying for a bit, I don't know how long, but it's not at the top of our list if you know what I mean. Also, my bed linens, pillows and duvet cover is green. I want to work with that. I want to keep an earthy, tranquil like theme to my bedroom. I have tons of ideas and money is very limited so I can't be anxious but I still need to be proactive.

I am going to take some pictures of what my bedroom is like tonight and post it. I will then start to show you my progress maybe week by week? I don't know. I was thinking of spending like $75.00 a month until it's finished. Does anyone else have their bedroom that needs work or another room in the house that they'd like to turn into a really cozy, cute room???

I'm actually about to change my room around (I wanted to do that early June, so who knows if I'll ever get around to it). I've had the sheets for a little over a year, and that inspired an entire room change. For Christmas, I got the shams, comforter, a few decorative pillows, and some Target giftcards to buy accessories. Unfortunately, I was waiting to redo my room until summer, and now Target no longer sells the collection. Anyway, I have the wallpaper border stripped and the paint bought, so I'll be starting soon. I'm really excited and plan on posting pictures as well.

Can't wait to see your room pics. Since your style is so awesome I know the room is going to be gorgeous.

HATE my bedroom. I'm sure if I allowed ya'll into my bedroom, you'd say, "Oh, Briana. I'm sorry." BUT, alas not time or money to spend changing things for now. :)
I'll just have to enjoy watching you make some changes.

Well, all my rooms need work, but the most depressing is "the office." It mostly consists of my drafting table and art stuff, the computer on an ugly desk, three guitars with an amp, and three bookshelves. Two match, the other one doesn't. I know I need to go through everything first, but the reason I've put off doing anything is that it'll cost money. Basically I need to buy a new desk that's larger and figure out storage. I'd like to make it as compact as possible, so there's room if needed for half the room to be a nursery. (No, I'm not pregnant yet, but the possibility of me being pregnant before we get an addition done is very high, so I'm thinking ahead.)

I think I'd like to paint it a dusty purple/gray and then have all the wood painted black with chrome bins for storage from IKEA and some black toile used sparingly. Anyone got good office storage solutions?

Danielle, I am all ears for office storage solutions.

The room I hate is the family room. The only things I really like are the color (Paul painted them a soothing green for me), the amazing view of the woods, and our dual-reclining sofa. What I hate is the monochromatic hodge-podge-lodge style. The sofa is beige suede, the rocker recliner is beige leather, the glider rocker is beige tweed. The TV armoire is Queen Anne with broken doors, the side tables are flea market and 40s )?) cast-offs, the lamp is held together with packing tape, and the berber carpet is stained. Hey, Beth, mind berber with a touch of coffee, coke and crud? The room's dimensions are tough to work with, considering the family doesn't want to ditch the TV. There is a "cable" wall and "sofa" wall. Did I mention the vertical blinds that I hate?
Okay, I am verging on major discontentment here. Please pray for contentment first, creativity second for me.

Beth I found your site off the comment you left on mine. Okay my bedroom is AWFUL too!!! I told myself that our bedroom would be the first room I decorated when we moved...but we ended up buying a major fixer upper house and so our bedroom is going to be last. Right now my bedroom looks like a closet...HEE HEE. It isn't very large either...pretty much just room for our bed and a dresser and that looks crowded but I am not downsizing my bed. I have all these visions for it. It is painted the color I want but I need to paint or buy new furniture, fix a huge hole in the wall, and get some art work up and figure out some storage/functional space saving ideas for beside tables lamps etc. I live in Southern California so my house is on the small size, I have gotten rid of so much but have to be very creative with storage etc. Anyhow, I am hoping to at least by Christmas have a new pretty master bedroom. I am like you I am going to have to do it slowly right now money is going to the outside of the house which is very much needed since we tore off the back steps and so the door opens to a major drop off. Can't wait to see what you do.
